The Story
Rod is the Proto-Slavic deity of creation, the ancestor of all gods. The Rozhdenitsy are fate goddesses who come at a child's birth to determine its destiny. According to legend, Rod created the world from his own body, while the Rozhdenitsy determine the course of human lives.
In birth rituals, Slavs would invoke Rod and Rozhdenitsy to protect mother and child. It was believed the Rozhdenitsy write a child's fate on its forehead at the moment of birth.
