The Myth

In Slavic mythology, the changing seasons originate from the tragic love story of Jarilo, god of spring and vegetation, and Morana, goddess of winter and death. Their divine marriage each spring brought fertility to the land.

However, Morana discovered Jarilo's infidelity and in her rage, killed him. This act brought winter's cold. When Jarilo is reborn the following spring, the cycle repeats - explaining the eternal dance of seasons.
