Description
Belobog, meaning "White God", was the benevolent deity of light, day, and good fortune in Slavic mythology. He represented the positive forces of the universe, often contrasted with his counterpart Chernobog (Black God).
While less documented than other Slavic gods, Belobog was worshipped across various Slavic regions, particularly in connection with the summer solstice and morning rituals. His presence brought blessings and protection.
Mythology
Belobog and Chernobog represented the eternal duality of light and darkness, good and evil. According to legends, Belobog would emerge at dawn to dispel the darkness brought by Chernobog, ensuring the cycle of day and night.
In some traditions, Belobog was believed to ride a golden chariot across the sky during the day, bringing warmth and light to the world. His presence was especially strong during the summer months.
Worship
Belobog was honored at sunrise and during the summer solstice. Rituals involved lighting sacred fires and making offerings of white flowers, milk, and honey. His symbols were carved into protective amulets and household items.
Unlike many Slavic gods, Belobog was never depicted in idol form. Instead, worshippers faced east at dawn to greet him, and his presence was invoked through circular solar symbols and white ritual garments.
